Le Young Centre est le domicile de Soulpepper, la plus importante compagnie th\u00e9\u00e2trale sans but lucratif de Toronto. Le personnel de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne de Soulpepper a entrepris des discussions informelles avec la section locale B173 de l\u2019IATSE au mois de f\u00e9vrier.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u2009Les employ\u00e9s de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne de Soulpepper avaient besoin d\u2019aide pour am\u00e9liorer leurs conditions de travail, pour aborder les pr\u00e9occupations en mati\u00e8re de sant\u00e9 et s\u00e9curit\u00e9, et pour am\u00e9liorer les communications avec la direction\u2009\u00bb, pr\u00e9cisait Paul Williams, secr\u00e9taire-tr\u00e9sorier de la section locale B173. \u00ab\u2009Notre section locale repr\u00e9sente d\u00e9j\u00e0 plus de 350 travailleurs et travailleuses de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne dans la grande r\u00e9gion de Toronto et nous \u00e9tions heureux de les accueillir au syndicat\u2009\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Les efforts pour syndiquer Soulpepper ont lanc\u00e9 une campagne plus \u00e9largie pour syndiquer les travailleurs et travailleuses de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne dans la grande r\u00e9gion de Toronto. Des dirigeants IATSE des autres sections locales de th\u00e9\u00e2tres ont form\u00e9 un comit\u00e9 organisateur \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle de la ville dont l\u2019objectif est d\u2019aider le personnel de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne \u00e0 joindre le syndicat. Le site web de la campagne est IATSE-reps-FOH.ca.<\/p>\n<p>\"Les travailleurs de l'accueil occupent souvent des emplois pr\u00e9caires, mal pay\u00e9s, avec peu ou pas d'avantages sociaux\", poursuit Jeff McMahan, pr\u00e9sident de la section locale B173. \"En travaillant ensemble par le biais du syndicat, nous sommes en mesure d'am\u00e9liorer ces conditions de travail.\"<\/p>\n<p>La requ\u00eate d\u2019accr\u00e9ditation a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pos\u00e9e aupr\u00e8s de la Commission des relations de travail de l\u2019Ontario le 29 mai et le vote a eu lieu le 5 juin. Le comptage des votes ce soir-l\u00e0 a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 un soutien massif pour une repr\u00e9sentation par la section locale B173 de l\u2019IATSE. Avec les machinistes qui sont repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s par la section locale 58, les d\u00e9corateurs de sc\u00e8ne et les accessoiristes par la section locale 828, et maintenant le personnel de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne par la section locale B173, la main-d\u2019\u0153uvre de ce th\u00e9\u00e2tre est presque enti\u00e8rement repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par IATSE. Les employ\u00e9s de l\u2019avant-sc\u00e8ne du Young Centre se joignent \u00e0 leurs coll\u00e8gues des th\u00e9\u00e2tres Royal Alexandra, Princess of Wales, le Centre Sony, le St. Lawrence Centre, le Toronto Centre for the Arts, le TIFF Bell Lightbox et le FirstOntario Centre \u00e0 Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p>Situ\u00e9 dans le Distillery District de Toronto, le Young Centre for the Performing Arts est un th\u00e9\u00e2tre flambant neuf construit dans des b\u00e2timents de l'\u00e9poque victorienne du XIXe si\u00e8cle : deux r\u00e9servoirs de l'ancienne distillerie Gooderham &amp; Worts.
