Travailler en collaboration et en solidarit\u00e9 avec les membres des deux pays a permis \u00e0 l'ensemble de nos membres de prosp\u00e9rer et de se d\u00e9velopper.<\/p><p>Les gouvernements des \u00c9tats-Unis et du Canada doivent se concentrer sur l'\u00e9laboration de politiques commerciales qui soutiennent les travailleurs et leurs familles.  L'utilisation de droits de douane pour garantir un commerce \u00e9quitable est un outil politique l\u00e9gitime.  Les \u00c9tats-Unis et le Canada devraient cibler les pays qui ne garantissent pas les droits et les protections des travailleurs, et non ceux qui le font.  Le Canada ne devrait pas \u00eatre confront\u00e9 \u00e0 des droits de douane g\u00e9n\u00e9raux inutiles, compte tenu de ses relations et de son partenariat unique avec les \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p><p>Ce qui est vrai dans le mouvement syndical l'est \u00e9galement ici : lorsque nous nous respectons les uns les autres, que nous travaillons ensemble et que nous nous alignons sur des questions communes, nous sommes plus forts.  La solidarit\u00e9 des travailleurs d\u00e9passe les fronti\u00e8res.  Notre cause est la m\u00eame : soutenir les familles de travailleurs et encourager la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique.<\/p><p>Le pr\u00e9sident John F. Kennedy a prononc\u00e9 un discours c\u00e9l\u00e8bre devant le Parlement canadien \u00e0 propos des relations entre les deux nations : \u00ab La g\u00e9ographie a fait de nous des voisins.  L'histoire a fait de nous des amis. L'\u00e9conomie a fait de nous des partenaires. Et la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 a fait de nous des alli\u00e9s. Ce qui nous lie est de loin sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 ce qui nous divise. \u00bb. Ces mots sont grav\u00e9s dans la pierre \u00e0 l'entr\u00e9e de l'ambassade des \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 Ottawa.
