Famous Players v. Local 302 [1999] A.G.A.A. No. 95 (Alberta Grievance Arbitration)

The grievance raised two main issues: (i) whether technicians working at the IMAX theatres were “projectionists” and thus covered by the collective agreement; and (ii) what should be the rate of pay of the IMAX technicians. The arbitrator found that (i) the IMAX technicians were projectionists and were covered by the collective agreement; and (ii) compensation should be the same as projectionists in conventional theatres because of similar hours and working conditions.
