Local 357 v. Stratford Shakespearean Festival of Canada [2003] O.L.R.D. No. 2382 (Ontario Labour Relations Board)

Application for certification (first of two decisions).  The local had not previously been recognized as a trade union within the meaning of the Act.  The employer disputed the appropriateness of the local’s proposed bargaining unit and its estimate of the number of employees in the unit, but proposed no alternative bargaining unit description or precise information on the number of individuals in the unit.  The Board directed that a representation vote be taken of “all performance drivers of the responding party working at and out of the City of Stratford, save and except Technical Management Assistant and persons above that rank”.
