- Collective Agreement Interpretation
Grievance over whether employees of the local received proper payment of wages with respect to the production of Beauty and the Beast, playing at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. The dispute involved the meaning of the term “time of call”. The arbitrator found in favour of the local that the phrase “time of call” meant one-half hour prior to the curtain rising. In particular, he found that “time of call” had an accepted industry meaning, which was known by both parties during negotiations and that there had been no discussion in negotiations about ascribing any other meaning to the term.
