Local 891 v. Teamster Local 155 [1998] (Umpire: Richard Longpre)

Both local 891 and the Teamsters local argued that safety diving should be within their sole jurisdiction, however the Teamsters advanced an alternative argument that jurisdiction should be divided by giving open water safety diving to the Teamsters and tank safety diving to local 891.  The Umpire accepted the Teamsters’ alternative argument.  It made sense for the Teamsters to have jurisdiction in the open water given their jurisdiction over other open water work specifically related to the safety diving team: i.e., the operation of safety boats, barges and related equipment.
