TORONTO, ON – Front-of-house and box office workers at The Canadian Stage Corporation have voted in favour of joining IATSE Local B-173. With an overwhelming majority of 92%, these workers have said loud and clear that they want to work together to improve their working conditions. Front-of-house and box office workers join the stagehands as well as the hair, makeup, and wardrobe workers at Canadian Stage, who already have union representation through IATSE Locals 58 and 822, respectively.
Prior to and during the pandemic, IATSE Local B-173 successfully organized five additional workplaces as a part of their IATSE-Reps-FOH campaign. “With this successful vote, workers at Canadian Stage will get the support and representation they deserve,” said IATSE Local B-173 Business Representative Jeff McMahan. “Building off the success of this vote, we look forward to supporting other FOH workers in their efforts to improve their working conditions.”
Front-of-house workers who are interested in securing union representation and improving their working conditions should contact International Representative Monty Montgomerie at mmontgomerie@iatse.net.
