Toronto, ON – I.A.T.S.E. Local 828 has won a representation vote to secure bargaining rights for employees of The Soulpepper Theatre Company. On September 7, 2005, the Ontario Labour Relations Board issued a decision in which it certified Local 828 as the bargaining agent for all scenic artists and prop makers working for the company.
Soulpepper, established in 1997, is a classical repertory theatre founded by twelve of Canada’s leading theatre artists. Their goal was to combine three areas; classical theatre, mentorship, and training, and to keep the artists and their work at the centre of the organization. All twelve founding members are still actively involved in the company, which is in the process of moving to the 44,000 square-foot Young Centre.
