John M. Lewis Appointed Director of Canadian Affairs For IATSE

John M. Lewis, who was employed as a Vice Chair to the Ontario Labour Relations Board, has been appointed by the IATSE’s General Executive Board as the Director of Canadian Affairs effective September 16, 2002, it was announced by International President Thomas C. Short.

Lewis is an honours graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, with a concentration in Finance and also graduated Osgoode Hall Law School, Ontario with his law degree. Early in his legal career, Lewis represented a number of trade unions and provided assistance in the negotiation of various collective agreements. He served as the General Counsel and Business Manager for Local No. 675, Drywall, Acoustic, Lathing and Insulation Workers for approximately 5 years. In addition, Lewis sat as a private mediator and arbitrator when jointly requested by parties to a dispute.

Lewis was appointed to fill the vacancy, created by James B. Wood upon his acceptance of the position of General Secretary-Treasurer.

President Short stated, “I am sure John will prove to be a valuable asset to the IATSE. Please join me in welcoming him to our Alliance.”
